The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is expected to restart later this week, with matches scheduled to take place on either Thursday or Friday, May 15 or 16, according to reports. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is currently working on finalizing the updated schedule for the remainder of the tournament.
Revised Match Locations Across India, Excluding Dharamsala
While the matches will occur at various venues nationwide, Dharamsala will not be included in the updated list of host cities. The reasons behind this decision have not been disclosed.
Impact of Ceasefire Violations on IPL
The tournament was previously suspended due to rising cross-border tensions. With the situation showing signs of improvement, the BCCI is taking measures to resume the league. However, the recent ceasefire violations by Pakistan could potentially delay the start of IPL 2025, as ongoing tensions may hinder the BCCI's ability to proceed. The final decision will depend on government approval and input from all relevant stakeholders.
Return of International Players
Several foreign players had departed India amid the uncertainty and escalating geopolitical issues, particularly due to concerns over air travel disruptions. However, franchises are now preparing to welcome back their international players as conditions stabilize.
A source familiar with the situation stated, "The overseas players were understandably anxious, primarily due to the airport shutdowns. They listened to their franchises and maintained confidence, but fears of international airports being closed caused significant concern."
Franchises Await Official Guidance
Teams are eagerly awaiting formal communication from the BCCI to start organizing travel and logistics for players and support staff. Training and match preparations will commence once the dates and venues are officially announced.
